Adopt Downtown Clean Up |
BCCA programs and activities reflect our dedication to our mission and focus areas. Programs change periodically but many are annual ongoing projects.
Quarterly Beauty Spot
Award:
Recognizing exceptional landscaping since 1987.
Tree Awareness Week,
ArborFest, Arbor Day Poster Contest and Tree Week at Area Schools: Hosted each Fall at local schools.
Clean Air Fair:
A new partnership with the Pollution Prevention Partnership at Texas A&M University developed in 2007. We hosted an exciting event at Sames-Crow Ford and helped show the public ways to do their share for clean air. Proper vehicle maintenance and ozone awareness help keep our All-America City clean!
Bayfest and Earth Day-Bay Day: Edible Compost, Nature Art and Tree Cookie Necklaces are always a big hit.
Wildflower Wonderland: Five years of wildflower seeding along Texas roadways brings spring wildflowers to South Texas.
Adopt-A-Beach: Events are held twice each year in April and September. This is a great community project for kids of all ages with our own site coordinated at Cole Park at Kids Place.
Texas Recycles Day: Held each year on November 15th, TRD encourages good environmental stewardship and supports one of our primary goals to increase recycling in our community.
Clean Team: Our vision to implement recycling at every major event began at Bayfest in 2005. Our partners at Bayfest, Buc Days and the City of Corpus Christi offer 30 receptacles for your public event and give the recycling proceeds to student organizations that help in the clean up effort.
Trash bag distribution at parades and major events such as the Illuminated Night Parade, Buc Days Junior Parade and C-Sculptures provide an opportunity for the public to participate in our efforts. Over 100,000 bags have been given out in the last 7 years!
Beautification: As winners of the 2002 Governor's Community Achievement Award, we completed over $1.4 million in beautification projects along Corpus Christi's state roadways in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Corpus Christi.
We have also donated hundreds of trees from our tree farm to organizations in our area. One example is the Eagle Scout project at the Housing Authority's Sea Breeze Units on IH-37 where 32 trees were planted for the elderly residents enjoyment.
One-time events such as the Adopt Downtown Clean Up are other ways to help improve our lovely city. |
